The firm
What is MuiaBP?

MuiaBP is an accounting and advisory firm for incorporated Canadian businesses. It brings three practices under one roof: Muia Finance for accounting, bookkeeping, payroll and tax; Muia Tech for Odoo implementation, system migration and automation; Muia Consulting for CFO advisory, finance transformation and HR support.

Do I have to use all three practices?

No. Each practice stands on its own and plenty of clients only ever use one. They sit in the same firm so that when an engagement does cross between them, nothing has to be handed to a third party.

What kind of clients do you work with?

Incorporated Canadian small and mid-sized businesses, owner-managed for the most part. We do not take personal or consumer tax work.

Where are you based?

Vaughan, Ontario, in the Greater Toronto Area. The work is remote-capable end to end and we act for clients across Canada.

The services
What is a virtual CFO, and do I need one?

A virtual CFO gives you financial leadership without a full-time executive salary: budgeting, cash flow planning, pricing and margin review, and support in lender, investor and board conversations. It is worth it when the business is growing and the owner is still the person assembling the numbers for every decision.

Do you help with government grants and SR&ED?

Yes. We identify eligible work, prepare the claim and the supporting documentation, and coordinate the filing. What is eligible is established before any work is scoped.

Do you offer HR services?

Yes, as advisory: role definition, team structure and people processes. It is the practice we bring in when the constraint is the team rather than the numbers.

Do we have to move to Odoo?

No. We implement Odoo and we also run engagements on cloud accounting alone. Which one suits you comes out of an assessment, not out of our service list.

Working together
How do engagements usually start?

With a thirty-minute consultation, then a written scope before any price. The scope sets out what we do, what stays with you, the calendar and what the output is.

Do you work alongside our existing accountant or internal staff?

Regularly. We often take the close, the reporting and the advisory layers while an internal bookkeeper continues day-to-day processing, or we coordinate with an existing accountant who keeps year-end.

Who keeps control of our accounts and records?

You do. Bank, payroll and CRA accounts stay in your business's name, and any access you grant us can be withdrawn.

What happens if we want to stop?

You get the file, the reconciliations and the written procedures. The work is documented as it is done, so a handover is a handover rather than an excavation.

Pricing
How are your services priced?

Value-based rather than hourly, and always against a written scope. Recurring work is a monthly fee; project work is quoted once it has been assessed.

Why will you not quote an implementation up front?

Because the number would be wrong. Implementation cost depends on modules, process complexity, data condition and user count. We scope first and then price, and software licensing is quoted separately from our work.

Is there a minimum engagement?

It depends on the service. The consultation is the place to establish whether the scope you need is one we can deliver properly at a level that makes sense for both sides.

Still not sure?

Thirty minutes is usually enough to establish whether we are the right firm for what you need.
